The WFWI Banner

In 2001 there was a project to create a new County Banner for the Worcestershire Federation of Women's Institutes.  Pieces of fabric were sent to all the W I s in the County, so that each Institute could design its own section to a standard size but in any form of needlework.

The section for Guarlford W I  was stitched in counted cross stitch using "waste canvas" over the fabric. (Once the cross stitch design is completed, the guiding "waste canvas" threads are removed.)

The Guarlford W I design shows the horse- and sweet-chestnut trees, which grow near the village centre, and the Victorian post-box set into the churchyard wall.

Each W I was asked to include the year in which their Institute was founded - in Guarlford's case 1941. You can read more about Guarlford W I activities, past and present, on the W I pages of the website.
